Location and Hours

The University Archives is open for research by appointment only.  To request a research appointment, or to ask questions about University History in general, please complete the Ask an Archivist form.

For those who would prefer to research remotely, we will continue to provide virtual assistance.  Please complete the Ask an Archivist form and let us know what you need.  We're here to help!

We are in the process of gathering personal stories and materials to document how the community is dealing with the pandemic.  If you'd like to contribute your experiences, check out our COVID-19 project site. 


When exiting the elevator bank on the 5th floor of the library, turn right.  The University Archives is the first (and only) office on the right.

The University Archivist also works from the Archives and Research Center (ARC).

While we are happy to provide in-person assistance, University Archives staff also provides virtual assistance to students, faculty, staff, and other researchers.

The University Archives is closed on holidays and during energy conservation days over the Christmas break.  Check our calendar for specific dates, or view all calendars for the University Libraries on the location and hours page - scroll down to see the list of locations on the left and click on the calendar icon link(s).

Since we are currently down to one person on staff who works on projects at two locations (Alkek and the ARC), walk-in availability will vary.  However, we can provide quite a bit of information virtually.  Please contact us with questions and let us know what information you are seeking and we'll work with you to meet your research needs!

Use this e-mail form to ask a question about University history, inquire about a potential donation, or ask other general questions.  This e-mail account is monitored by archives staff during regular business hours. 



Use this form to request an on-site research appointment.  Research appointments are required to allow time for retrieval of offsite materials, to reserve research space, and to allow staff time to sanitize the space between researchers. 

Walk-in assistance is dependent on staff and space availability, as researchers with appointments are given priority.
