University Photographs

Photographic negatives, transferred by the University News Service, form the bulk of images related to Texas State University.  This record group consists of approximately 700,000 individual images taken from approximated 1970 to 1999.  The majority of these images were intended for publicity purposes, from general views of students on campus to specific academic and extracurricular events.

It is sometimes possible to search for specific events based on date or topic. To request a search for photographs from specific events, please Ask an Archivist.  Please be aware that searching through negatives can be a time-consuming process; if relevant negatives are identified, producing high-res digital files will take several weeks. 

Images are made available via Flickr once they are digitized and processed.   See a sample of the digitized images above, along with links to the respective Flickr pages.  If you know something about any of the images posted on Flickr, please log in and add tags and/or comments so we can include this information with the image(s).

You may use these images for research papers and other educational purposes. Citations for images used must include three elements:

  • the image number (which is the same as the file name) for each image used
  • the title: University Negative Collection
  • and the repository: University Archives, Texas State University
