Campus Buildings

Information about campus buildings, such as when they were constructed, when they were renovated, what purpose they served, and who they were named for, is gathered from a variety of sources.

Note: While architectural drawings and blueprints would fit within this function, records documenting the construction, renovation, and maintenance of currently-standing buildings are considered active records and are maintained by Facilities.

Building history files

Vertical files, arranged alphabetically by name of building, document the history of campus buildings.

Typical information found in building files include clippings (newspaper articles) from the Star and the San Marcos Daily Record, photographs, memos and press releases, and dedication programs.  Files may be viewed in the reading room; research appointments are encouraged.

Additional resources

The President's Report to the Board of Regents (1928-1993) is another resource for historical facts about buildings.  These reports may contain information about construction costs, types and costs of furnishings, recommendations for naming the building, and recommendations about repairs and renovations.
